Rural Ensemble of Balàfia

Rural Set of Balàfia. The most rural Ibiza

The rural Ensemble of Balàfia are constructions that reflect the Ibizan life in the field

As usual when you visit one of the cultural property of the island, reaching the Rural complex Of Balàfiacan become a real odyssey if we do not know the way. The directions to arrive are scarce and unclear. To situate ourselves, the Rural Group of Balàfia is located in the rural town of Sant Llorenç. This small town, composed of a church and some houses, is located on the road that connects Sant Joan de Labritja with Eivissa (Ibiza Capital). About six kilometres from Sant Joan we find a small detour that leads to the town of Sant Llorenç. Once we reached the Church of Sant Llorenç we found a road to the right that takes us to a house with a tower of defense. It is not here, the road continues with a dirt road in not very good condition. A Few hundred meters later we find the signpost and a small dirt road that takes us to the Rural Complex of Balàfia. Although there is a little more parking inside, it is private, so you should try to park the car in the previous section or take the next turning on the right where we will reach the back of the village, with more space.

The beauty of the Rural Ensemble of Balàfia

However, its archaeological interest is not the largest treasure that the Rural Ensemble of Balàfia. The Street that crosses the nucleus, between the towers and the private houses are of an unusual beauty, remembering more to the alleys of the old cities, with stone walls, narrow corridors and flowers. The Most typical elements of Ibiza constructions are reflected in the bread ovens we found. The white crosses painted on the walls remind us of the Ibizan tradition of banishing evil spirits.
